Through the Texas-based organization Operation FINALLY HOME, Bluegreen Communities has partnered with NAPE Expo, The Bay Area Builders Association, and Classic Homes to provide homesites and custom homes for five wounded veterans. Texas Homesites provides the land for this wonderful cause, and Classic Custom Homes and NAPE Expo build the homes. Operation FINALLY HOME was founded by Dan Wallrath, who was named “a 2010 CNN Hero.” Since the organization was founded, Wallrath and Operation FINALLY HOME have provided homes to 11 disabled veterans.
Two of our Texas Homesites master-planned communities participate in Operation FINALLY HOME—Vintage Oaks at the Vineyard and The Bridges at Preston Crossings. The Vintage Oaks at the Vineyard recently welcomed Senior Airman Colton Read and his wife, Jessica, to their new one-acre home. Senior Airman Colton Read and Jessica broke ground on their home in December 2010, and we are thrilled to be able to welcome them to our community.
The Bridges at Preston Crossings recently welcomed Army Specialist Hugo L. Gonzalez and his family. Army Specialist Hugo Gonzalez sustained injuries in Iraq in 2004 after his Humvee was attacked. With the help of Operation FINALLY HOME, the Gonzalez family is one step closer to being home. The Bridges at Preston Crossings is also home to two other veterans and their families, who have received mortgage-free homes that are currently being built. The homes built for the injured veterans and their families are 3,000 square feet, custom-built, mortgage-free, and sit on one acre of land.
We cannot express how proud we are to work with an organization that contributes to such a worthy cause! To learn more about Operation FINALLY HOME and to find out how you can help, contact us at (800) 639‑5570, or stop by and visit us anytime!
